Handmade Santa Claus Brooch, Christmas Brooch, Classic Santa Pin, Made to Order
Celebrate the magic of the season with this festive handcrafted Santa Claus brooch! You can wear it on your sweater or your coat, but I pinned mine to to my stocking!
My classic Santa heads are beloved as ornaments, but someone recently suggested that they would like to wear one as a brooch! Santa brooches are a bit smaller and lighter than my Santa ornaments (see video), but like every Santa I make, they are carefully and expertly handcrafted with skill, artistry and attention to detail. The process begins with careful curation of materials. For example, the wool I use for beards is sourced exclusively from small farms and requires hours of combing, picking and trimming before I even begin crafting Santas!
Once my materials are prepared, I start each Santa by shaping a human head out of wool. From there, I sculpt Santa's features: eye sockets and eyes first, then nose, rosy cheeks, mouth, and eyelids. Then, each Santa gets sweet, bushy eyebrows and a wonderful white beard and hair, which is carefully attached in roughly half inch chunks over the course of about an hour. When his features and hair are complete, I add his hat and trim. By the time your Santa is complete and ready to ship, I've spent hours one on one with him, crafting his sweet face and making sure he's filled with Christmas spirit!
Santa Claus brooches are made from multiple varieties of wool and silk. They have glass eyes, white wool beards, and natural silk accents. They are about three inches tall and have a pin back.
Aside from his glass eyes and pin back, every part of this Santa is needle felted, which means he takes hours to create. This is why I require two weeks of processing time for every order. This processing period does not include weekends or holidays. I always try my best to make every Santa worth the wait!
Santa Claus brooches are needle felted. Needle felting is the process of using a barbed needle to join fibers together. When the fibers are stabbed with the needle, the barbs cause the fibers to entwine. Artists vary the depth, direction, and pressure of the stabbing in order to transform loose fiber into sculptures. This often takes many, many hours.
Santa Claus brooches are not a toy for small children. As the beloved symbol of the magic of Christmas, Santa is very, very busy this time of year does his best work away from tiny hands and paws.
